Chicago native, Matt Snell spent his early years split between two of his passions... drag racing and playing heavy metal... in the end...Heavy Metal won. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music career and begun shifting through local bands at a rapid pace, while daytime he was teaching sound engineering at the LA Recording Academy.
His thunderous finger style became a commodity that placed him in high demand both live and in the studio -- earning him the nick name, "Basswhore" -- as he was generally playing in 4-5 different bands in the same time... Some of them climbed the popularity latter relatively fast, such as LA underground favorites Deadsett and experimental quantum noise metal calculus "Anubis Rising." In 2006' the most promising of his bands, Deadsett came to such a screeching halt -- that the whole underground could smell the burning tires... Zoltan and Jeremy with keen noses weren't wasting any time and snatched up the Basswhore before the smoke subsided and the vultures showed up...
Matt became the 3rd member of the Death Punch -- solidifying the band's foundation. It took some time to curb his whorish tendencies however, as later Matt helped out the band Flatline on their New Zealand/Australia tour in the downtime while Death Punch waited for their record to get mixed J ...but he is behaving like a faithful Viking ever since. As for the rest of Deadsett, they went on forming the band "In This Moment" with Maria Brink. As a weird twist of fate the next time the boys saw each other was when Five Finger Death Punch took out "In This Moment" as the supporting act to the 08' 5FDP headlining tour... it's a small world. As we all know. When he's not on tour with the death punch... he's smelling the gasoline again... cars, bikes, atvs...
